How to Cut Aluminum on CNC Routers
Things You'll Need
CAD program
CNC router
Aluminum sheet
1
Attach a 3/8-inch-diameter high-speed steel bit to the drill head. This bit should be good for up to 18,000 rpm and will cut aluminum.
2
Design a template for your aluminum in a CAD program, and upload it to your CNC router. With this template, the CNC router will be able to design cuts to meet your specifications, including varying speed and path to achieve the correct design.
3
Lay the aluminum on the router, and line up the drill head with the first cut that needs to be made. Start the vacuum to hold the metal in place.
4
Turn on your router, or press start on the CNC interface, whichever is appropriate for your particular router. Step back from the router and allow it to cut the metal. Wearing goggles and gloves is appropriate if you are going to be close to the router. Be advised the router will retrace the same area several times until a complete cut has been made.
